Le truand Léonce Pozzi, dit "Le Fondu", s'évade et tue un inspecteur de police. Son coéquipier, l'inspecteur Vardier, policier expérimenté et retors, fait de l'arrestation du "Fondu" une affaire personnelle. On lui adjoint cependant un jeune policier inexpérimenté et peu motivé, marié à une charmante jeune bourgeoise. Or, l'inspecteur Vardier est aussi connu pour son goût des femmes.

The mobster Léonce Pozzi, known as "Le Fondu", escapes and kills a police inspector. His teammate Inspector Vardier, an experienced and devious policeman, makes the arrest of "Le Fondu" a personal matter. However, he is assisted by a young inexperienced and poorly motivated policeman married to a charming young upper-class woman, and Inspector Vardier is also known for his taste for women.
